So, my first blog post! What shall I write?……
Let me tell you about a lovely make that was inspired by my 7-year-old son.
“Mum you make lots of things for other people, would you make something for me and my best friend Logan?” Well first I have to say that my first ever make was for my son Michael (a quilt for his room), and since then I have made many things for him, but as with all children how quickly they forget!
“Of course, Michael, what would you like?”
“Please may I have a cushion for my Star Wars bedroom and one for Logan too, we can use them when we are reading at night?”
So, there it as my first order since starting up “Threaded With Love From Home”.
Off I went to my boxes of fabric to see what I could use to meet this request. At the bottom of one of my fabric boxes I found a pack of “First Order” Star Wars fabric I had left over from making Michael’s curtains for his bedroom. Perfect, now how do I make this threaded with love and unique?
As most parents with young children know, you have two core sources of reference material for your children, Reading Books and Lego manual, and let me tell you we have plenty of both! For his birthday Michael has been given a Lego Star Wars encyclopaedia, so I flicked through and found some pictures of two classic Star Wars spaceships, The Y-Wing and Darth Vader’s Tie Fighter.
With the cushion completed and the two images embroidered onto either side I made the same for his friend. Children can sometimes be the best critics as they have no filter when it comes to their thoughts, so I was delighted when Michael gave me his seal of approval. Phew!
In the next Blog I will be taking you through the make process, how I approached the project and some handy tips if you are looking to make something similar for yourself.
